Essex

The picturesque hamlet of Essex is a historical district and radiates charm and serenity. The rhythm of the village is set by both the season, and the coming and going of the LCT Charlotte-Essex ferry running between NY and Vermont. In the summer it is humming in a leisurely way and in the winter, the town is quiet, an ideal spot for reflection and rejuvenation.

Children and youth attend the Willsboro Central School four miles to the north. There are small antique and artisan shops and a couple of dining establishments. Slips for boats are available at the Essex Shipyard and the Essex Marina and Lake Champlain is at your fingertips with all that it offers.

Essex and neighboring Champlain Valley towns have welcomed a vibrant, strong population of young farmers all of whom offer CSA shares. The Hub is a distribution and foodprocessing locale at the crest of the hill heading south on Route 22 from the hamlet.

The Whallonsburg Grange has become a cultural Center for the area offering concerts, plays, movies, dance, and lectures. The grange continues with its historic mission of bringing people together.
